You can use the .htaccess-file to protect files or directories, if you are hosted on apache.

However, is it the common way to do password stuff? Is it not CGI/server side stuff? If so, does anyone know how to do that - or know of a source/tutorial?
The most common way is with a .htaccess file on Unix, or a 'dafauth.txt'(?) file on NT, I think.
