    paypal and fraud CC cards

    Hello,

I have a business paypal account which I use for receiving payment for web design related work. I recently received a payment from what seems to me to be a fraud CC card.

I tried getting in touch with the person, but the email address he specified during the checkout is an invalid one. How do I proceed? Should I inform paypal? I have a lot of funds in my Paypal account and I don't want the account to be cancelled.

    Thanks for your help.

Yes, you should notify PayPal. I would also move the money that is currently in your PayPal account to your bank account for safe keeping.

I would definitely contact Paypal if you think that the person used a fraudulent CC.

Ok, so there is a possibility that Paypal terminates my account?

It's just so that the person with the fraudulant credit card number doesnt try to claim that they defrauded you and tries to get a "charge-back" on the account. Either that, or an "automatic invoice" - you'd be surprised by how clever people can be.

I just sent an email to Paypal. Let's hope they get back to me asap. What's their usual response time?

You can also phone them with questions. I've had good experiences with their phone support.

    Question Bogus payment emails

I don't know if this is related or not, but I have been receiving bogus PayPal emails over the last week. The first clue was that they were not formatted exactly as ones from PayPal, and the second was the linked URLs.

Mike, you're going to want to report those to spoof@paypal.com

    Thumbs up Thanks

Thanks for the email - I will also forward it to the people I had brunch with in Andersonville this morning who are also getting the emails.

There are other Chicagoans here... maybe a SitePoint gathering is in order?

I actually thought about that... perhaps we should all meet at Soldier Field for a Bears game? (Too bad they lost today 31-13 to the Miami Dolphins - though the last time they ended our unbeaten streak, we went on to win the Super Bowl )
