    I'd have to disagree. If more people are voting for it then it is probably better for them than other choices. "Better: is very subjective. If you are a "hard core" programmer and you like DreamWeaver over Notepad then, by definition, it is "better" for you.

    Polls like this help people get an idea of what is popular and "better". I use DreamWeaver for php but am actually looking for something else if it is "better".

    Popular == 'better' || 'well marketed';
    Often it's a combination of the two.

    I started this poll to see what was popular so I could find something better. (And out of curiosity as well) Popularity doesn't mean something will automatically be high quality, but it is a good place to look first. I've actually been curious about the latest version of Dreamweaver, but I haven't used it yet.

    I'm curious how many of the Dreamweaver users use it just because they got familiar with it at school/work...

    I've been using TopStyle Pro and Notetab Pro, but started looking around at other editors for utf-8 support. I'd seen code produced by earlier versions of Dreamweaver and assumed like most apparently do that such code is unavoidable. Perhaps in earlier versions it was, but I loved version 8 when I tried it out. No problems with bad code apart from human error.

    Strangely, it runs much faster and usably on my dated 600mh machine than things like AceHTML and Vim.

    Only after my recent purchase did I find out there was a new version due out around May of next year when CS3 is released. I'll find out then how much the upgrade fee hurts for not waiting.

    It's not on the list, but you might like to try WeBuilder 2006 if you haven't already.

    I use PSPad -- honestly it has a few too many options on it but I really enjoy tag highlighting and spell check on the same program. I'd use MetaPad if it had those two options; I like simple interfaces more than flashy.

    In my opinion Quanta is very close to be The Perfect Editor, although it only runs on Linux. So on Windows I have to use DreamWeaver or Eclipse (Aptana), maybe Zend Editor.

    What I like the most in Quanta is its full featured word completion. It recognizes not just my function and variable names, but other words too, and it is still blazingly fast.

    I voted for PSPad, because its all I use these days, but I'm ashamed to say that I'm not 100% loyal and I'd shift if I can find anything that is "better" for me.

    Well if anyone is looking for a free editor with spell check and word wrap then may I suggest PSPad. I just found this one thanks to the above poster. It has spell check which is a big plus. If anyone can name a free alternative with spell checking I'm all eyes.

    Anybody using HTML Kit? I'm always trying out something else-- I got that complex where I always think I'm missing something-- but I always return to HTML Kit.

    The Sausage Software that owns the HotDog product today has no relationship at all to the Australian company that pioneered HotDog. The product is essentially defunct, it hasn't been enhanced for years.
