I also get quite a bit of traffic from sitepoint and regularly visit the site of an interesting post. Mind you, is site point where you want your traffic from. It's likely most of the people on hear are in relatively similar industries. I'm still looking for a client forum, lol.

I voted that I almost never visit the links, although what best describes my signature clicks isn't one of the poll options. I'm probably somewhere between almost never and often clicking on sig links.

Pretty much what I do is click on links when the link or links are for products, services or info that I currently need or may need in the near future. Basically, whenever a link seems that it would be useful and relevant for me.

I rarely click on random signature links. When I do that it's usually after reading a very useful / informative post and I become curious about the members site (or sites).

Yeah, I click through a lot of links.

For clearification, google does follow the links in the signatures they simply don't award any PR for them (because the nofollow tag). They don't become invisible, they just don't help you for SERP reasons.

as far as i know the sigs at sitepoint are visible only if you are logged in

try it yourself: log out and see if you can see them

and of course, search engine bots don't sign in while visiting

Yes, I always try to visit other people's links. It's a great way to learn more about them and to see what other sites they support or own.

That's not true. Every link passes PR except when using rel='nofollow' or Google has blocked the page because they sell links.

Yeah totally. It helps me make up my mind about whether someone's opinion is worthwhile or not, and gives a better insight into what they're all about. I know from my traffic stats that a lot of my visitors are visiting my sites via my posts to forum threads and blog comments.

My sig keeps me on my toes. It's been almost a year since I put up my website, and I look at it now and cringe. So I'm actually in the process of developing a better version. The fire under my butt to get it done IS SP forums, because I love doing contests, and I'm among peers, and I don't want to look like a schlub. Well, I don't want my SITE to make me look like a schlub...

Angry I did when I was a newbie, not anymore...

When I first joined the forum, I was curious and did check the signee websites, then one day, I checked one and it looked interesting (song lyrics and MP3s), then I clicked one image that was suposed to give me information on an album by Kylie Minogue, thinking it would land me on Amazon.

Well, it automatically downloaded a toolbar, that's not the end of it, it went into my computer's connection setting to dial a 900 number everytime I connect to the internet, to top it off, it loaded tons of p*rn sites in my document folder. I was only able to reset my internet connection, but the damage was done, no anti-virus software could do anything about it and my firewall didn't detect the intrusion. Was never able to fix it by deleting the files myself, it went right into my Kernell32, I have to bring it to the techie guy and pay him to undo the damage.

So to anser the question, I no longer check the signee's websites.

Surely one bad experience from one person's sig should put you off clicking links on other people's links?

I wouldn't bother going to a link that has the keywords "mp3, music, video, free, etc" in the sig anyway

I follow people's signature links once in a while. Sometimes, just to see what others are up to, sometimes because the link points to something I'm currently looking for, and rarely just out of random interest.

If the person says something useful and/or the link in the sig line looks interesting, then I will visit it. Otherwise, I ignore them just like I ignore everything else I have no interest in.
