I use www.webjump.com. A personal account is free to use. You only have to deal with an upper advertisement/navigation frame.

Im going to be doing a friends website for practice. and its just a gaming interest site so it wont make any money.
I would like to steer clear of the names like geocities and xoom and such.

I feel like some time ago i saw a server that offered site free and the domain name started with your name rather than theirs like so: "www.myname.domainhost.com"
Does anyone know of a site that offers good free domain hosting?

    Hi,

I reccomend http://www.f2s.com they give you 20 meg space, CGi, PHP and a SQl database which isn't bad for a free host.

try www.bootbox.net they apparently give you 10mb space, cgi-bin, php, ssi, and a lot more without banners. I have never tried them though.

Another good one is http://webprovider.com. They give you a lot of benefits for a banner ad. You can also pay for a better service. (No ads)

Webprovider.com's servers are very slow bandwidth wise.

Anyone looking for a free ASP provider can look at www.ewebcity.com/. A good place to go if your just learning.

Sounds like it's hit-and-miss with free webspace providers right now. Lets face it, for everyone raving review, there's a nightmare story.

I think that will improve shortly. Eventually there might be a ton of free internet access and free webspace providers. Although the pay-for ones will always be more reliable.

I have used http://www.homepage.com for a couple of sites and they are really good. They (of course) have a banner ad at the top but it's not that bad. They give you either 5 or 10 MB of space which is good and it is really easy to use.

I remember over 2 years ago when I started using AOL's Personal Publisher (I won't go into it, it's too frightening).

I moved to Tripod later, which is at the very least better than GeoCities, although not as popular.

Don't have much experience with HomePage.com, but it looks pretty good!
