    Image Map in FireFox Failing

    This works in IE but not in FF:
    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">

       <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" >
       <head>
       <title> domain.com
       </head>

       <body>
       <map name="OpeningPage">
       	<area href="Music.php" shape="rec" coords="460, 152, 580, 210" alt="My Music">
       	<area shape="rec" href="Mediation.php" coords="682, 152, 897, 210" alt="Mediation Services">
       </map>

       <img src="Images/OPageBackground.png" width="992" height="654" border="0" alt="Opening page background" usemap="#OpeningPage" ismap="ismap">
       </body>
       </html>
    In IE I get hyperlink areas that work and in FF there are no such areas. Would someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong here!?

    Nevermind! (or never mind!)

    shape="rec" works with IE but it's not W3C. First rule of foruming for answers: W3C Validate first!

    Glad to see you answered your own question.... if something doesn't work or look as expected then the first answer is to always validate your code.... if it validates and the problem still exists then it's likely to be something abit more obscure which I sure some of us here will be able to help you out with

    You'd better design your website and test it in Firefox.

    My bad experience is I designed my websites and only tested it in IE, and after running the website for 3 months, I found the pages look awesome in Firefox. Now it will take me the same time as the designing to fix the problem. Very bad!!!!!!

    The irony is that my default browser is FF. I test in IE only to make certain that my IE hacks work properly. In this case I happened to have IE open for testing the layout and found that the hyperlinks were showing up!

    Thanks for writing back. Maybe one day MS will catch on and realize that cooperation is at least as important as competition.

    I'm having sort of the sample problem, maybe you could help me out:

    I am getting it to work in IE but not in FF as well. I've tried everything. I want my code to be compliant with w3c as well, but can't figure this one out. I tried what u suggested with the rec, but didn't work. Anyone? This is my code:

    Code:
    <img src="images/topb.gif" alt="Studio727 Web Menu" width="750" height="77" usemap="#map" />

    <map id="map">
    <area id="services" href="our-services.html" coords="175, 5, 256, 21" alt="" />
    <area id="products" href="our-products.html" coords="276, 5, 364, 21" alt="" />
    <area id="quote" href="free-price-quote" coords="386, 5, 486, 21" alt="" />
    <area id="blog" href="http://blog.studio727.net" coords="509, 5, 603, 21" alt="" />
    <area id="contact" href="contact-us-today.html" coords="625, 5, 727, 21" alt="" />
    </map>

    Well, designsbyrandy I got your sample to work I don't know what your problem was. However, if you add the name attribute to the <map> it works.

    Code:
    <img src="example.png" width="200" height="200" alt="Demo" usemap="#example" />
     <map id="example" name="example">
     <area id="a" shape="rect" coords="0,0,100,100" href="one.htm" alt="1" />
     <area id="b" shape="rect" coords="101,0,201,100" href="two.htm" alt="2" />
     <area id="x" shape="rect" coords="0,101,100,200" href="three.htm" alt="3" />
     <area id="y" shape="rect" coords="101,101,200,200" href="four.htm" alt="4" />
     </map>
