I do know this AMD xp was specifically designed for XP. It will work with others but that chip utilizes special features within XP for speed and optimization. For info

MP seems to be designed for server loads here is info on this

    Hope that helps.

There isn't really a difference between the two. The Athlon XP is the latest iteration of the Athlon while the Athlon MP is an Athlon XP chip certified for multi-processor enviroments.

Basically the MP designation is for corporations who want a chip that has been tested in muti-processor situations and will have AMD support for it. You can run Athlon XP chips in SMP and it will work but you won't recieve any support if you do go that route.

Apart from that there are no real differences.

The MP works in multi-processor configurations - the XP does not. (Officially, at least)
