IE7 Final Released!!!
Great news people! IE7 Final has been released.
Word has it that IE7 will install on your computer on the 1st of Nov via automatic update. I'm not sure how true this is...but we'll have to wait and see...
I have a link to download it, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it. Please guide me in this matter. After all...it does validate upon installation. Let me know.
All the best,
AntonieAnd so I got lost in code...completely asphyxiated by it...

IE7? What benefits does it have? Does it crash faster than IE6? Is it more proprietary? Can it do ANYTHING right?
Heh heh heh.
I'll get IE7 whenever I decide to upgrade to Vista (late 2007)

It's quite nice. I have one wish though. If only they could drop the whole 'new window' action. That is what tabs are for, right? I really hate it when links open in a new window or in the current tab. Especially speaking about toolbars and links from external applications.

Well, I'm not a PC user so I'm not exactly sure if this will work. I installed IE 7.0 today, then for testing purposes I also installed multiple standalone versions of IE.
Will I run into any problems by doing this?

No problems here. I've done it since the RC came out.Save the Internet - Use Opera | May my mother rest in peace: 1943-2009

The final is basically a stabile version of RC3 with several stability and bug fixes. It seems like they also implemented the clear type interface. (which I think wasn't in the RC3)

Well.. I installed it over RC3, but have this amusing thing to share with everyone during installation. It is particularly amusing because RC3 is quite similar to the Final v7.
"A previous version of Internet Explorer was removed. After restarting your computer to complete removal and logging in, installation will begin automatically and your computer will restart again to finish installation."
Okay, 2 restarts to install a bloody browser?

IE integrates fully into your OS. Your Windows Explorer is fully powered by the core of IE, thus you can surf the web from any windows explorer address bar. Most of the software that you install on your computer also uses the core of IE for a vast range of networking tasks, etc...
So that's what makes IE a little bit more than just a browser. And so I got lost in code...completely asphyxiated by it...

A quick test on this system on memory usage between Firefox2 rc3 and IE7:
In both browsers I cleared everything (with exception to my way too many bookmarks in firefox) and loaded several sites without minimizing the browsers.
The websites loaded were:
- http://mail.google.com/mail/ (signed into gmail)
- 3 blank tabs.
The results were.
FIREFOX.EXE - 97,504 K
IEXPLORE.EXE - 134,776 K
However, when I minimize the IE7 the process IEXPLORE.EXE drops amazingly down to 18,112. The only reason FIREFOX.EXE does that (drops down to 7,732) is because I set a configuration in the about:config called config.trim_on_minimize (which I set to true).
So why is it that there is no config.trim_on_minimize set to true as a default for the win32 port of firefox? It would seem to be buggy right now?
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=76831
Edit:
Just did this with Opera and received 36,904 K for not minimized and 6,044 for minimized... which really puts either browser to shame.

Okay, I heard some people saying it's pretty... and I'll agree that it's pretty pretty if you're using XP with a skin, something that I don't typically do because I like to have more process/memory go towards useful things. So.. here's a screenshot of what it looks like for me:
http://www.zat.ca/ie7noskin.jpg
http://www.zat.ca/firefox2noskin.jpg
Does anyone care to see Opera without windows skinning/theming? I don't know what the point of this exercise was considering that WIE7 will only work on machines with themes (WinXP+), and that most of those users don't turn the skins off it's not much of a problem. This is just from speculation of the people I see using windows XP.
So.. some random updates:
1. There is a Vulnerability found within 24 hours. It is a small one though which affected MSIE6 beforehand. This bug doesn't affect Windows Vista.
http://secunia.com/advisories/22477/
2. Internet Explorer is now known as "Windows Internet Explorer" (or WIE for short).. so I'll be typing this out with some inconsistencies for the next few months. I'm not sure if I'd rather say MSWIE or WIE.. WIE just sounds like an acronym with a wine...or just something pronounced.. "why? [am I stuck in this acronym]"..
3. Everyone in the web development community already knows this but.. they didn't improve much between IE6 and IE7 in the amount of standards they support as shown by webdevout.
http://www.webdevout.net/browser_sup...=on&uas=CUSTOM
However, they did fix some things from position is everything. So fixing the outstanding rendering bugs before moving on seems like a good idea. I'm just wondering how IE still uses more memory (and cpu) for rendering things when they use 60% of the standards other browsers use.
The real telling will be between Firefox3 and MSWIE8... Anyway, back to Linux, I just saw the comments and had to come back here to make some screenshots.
