As stymiee said the design part and the choice of a 2 col or 3 col is tightly tied to the contentOriginally Posted by makubex

I agree with Stymiee and DT, though as far as design goes I do not see one as being better than the other.
I could design a 3 column layout that does not look as good as someone elses 2 column design.
Then it really comes down to personal taste. I might like the other guys 2 column layout better than my 3 column, but he may think mine the better looking of the 2.![]()

Others, definately. You really don't know which design will be best until you don't have the content.

It also depends on the type of features etc you want to display.

I would also say that it depends on the content, and the amount of features that you want to have. If you only have a latest posts, login and search next to the main column. Then i don't see why you would need 3 columns.
But if you have lets say 7 items you would like to display next to your main column. Then you might be better of using a 3 column layout, that way you can spread the items out more evenly over the left and right side. I personaly think its a lot better to have 4 items on the left side and 3 on the right side, then to have 7 of them on one side.
If you have the content to fill up 3 columns use it. If not use two. It is the content that people look for not the number of columns.
