Ok, check out the site at http://www.hillary2000.org

It kills me to say it, 'cause I'm not exactly a big fan of hers, but what a great site! Now I understand the basic technique, I imagine that it was laid out in Photoshop and then cut up and pasted into tables, but how do I learn the details? For instance, how'd they get the pin stripes in the background to line up with the pinstripes in the nav images? And how exactly do you make everything line up and behave? That sort of thing. Is there a book or online tutorial about this specific cut/paste into tables technique? Thanks!

    Hello,

Well, actually, they didn't get the background to lignup with anything.
If you take a closer look at all the images that seem to lignup with the background, you can notice that they all are transparent gifs, so that the lignes are seen through the images.

    Hope it helps,
    Carl

No one else? How about you folks that re-designed SitePoint? Didn't you do it that way?

    joseph,

You'll need to be a little more specific about what you're trying to accomplish...

The only general advice I could offer would be to view the source code of any page whose design appeals to you. Go through it line by line until you understand how it works, or if you need to ask about something specific, we're here to help!

Ok, they lay out and create the design in Photoshop. Then what? Are they slicing it up using ImageReady? Does it build the page for you? Or are they designing in Dreamweaver layers and converting to tables? Just looking for some of the tricks of the trade on this specific design/cut into tables method.
