Problem displaying in IE - help please

Hey Guys,

My clients site is: http://216.127.84.119/~bristolc/

The design is centered (as it should be) when viewing with FireFox, but gets pushed to the left when viewing with IE (I'm using 6.0).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You have 36 HTML validation errors, which means it's a real miracle that the page is even rendering properly in the first place.

I suggest very strongly that you view the page in Opera, since it is not rendering properly in that browser at all (tabs being pushed out of place, columns not rendering properly, et cetera).

You're going to have to use a proper DOCTYPE and clean up your code.

Since you're using an XHTML style syntax, I suggest you use XHTML instead of HTML. Or remove the / from your self-closing elements and use HTML 4.01 instead.

As for your CSS, I would also clean up those warnings, but only after you validate your HTML code and fix this error in your stylesheet:

#header h1 a

Property text-indext doesn't exist : -5000px

Hi Dan,

Why Opera? I thought FireFox was suposed to render accurate HTML? Does opera make this claim?

I had a designer create the template for me and then linked it into a CMS. The original template is at http://216.127.84.119/~bristolc/designs/ (It doesn't completely validate either).

Thanks for the tip - I knew this couldn't be a simple fix!

When designing a Web site, a designer needs to check against all the modern browser rendering engines. Trident (Internet Explorer), Gecko (Mozilla, Flock, Galeon, K-Meleon), Presto (Opera) and KHTML/WebKit (Konqueror, Safari).

All browsers will render HTML the same if there is a proper DOCTYPE declaration.

The cross-browser display issues that are associated with modern Web design are associated more with CSS than anything. Just as cross-browser scripting issues are associated with JavaScript.
