basically can someone give me the code to make site.com/page/ display site.com?q=page but not redirect it? i've tried other things but i just can't seem to grasp ahold of mod_rewrite. thanks in advance.

First, we don't do freebie work - we're here to help you learn by working your way through problems.
Second, just about every thread in this forum deals with the same (or very similar) problems and code abounds in every thread.
