A challenge (for me at least): percentage widths in a liquid layout

    Hi,

If you go here, you can see a list of photo albums with five images each (a sample of the album's contents). Each block is a non-fixed width <li> item. If you hover over an image, a span pops up.

Now, I don't want the spans where they are at present. Instead, I want them to appear to the right of the images as a little box appearing in line with them. I also would like the width of this box to be variable, depending on the space available to the right of the images. The number of images is also variable. So, the distance between the last image and the box should be constant regardless of the width of the viewport, and the box should finish at the left edge of the viewport.

This is all constrained by the fact that the span is inside the anchor containing the image (in order to use a:hover span).

Is it possible to achieve what I'm after?

I reckon you'd be better using javascript to pop up a tooltip type thing over each image. People may not notice your popup if it's at the right, particularly when hovering over images at the far left.

It should be fairly obvious, it'll be a large chunk of text. And I'm not very fond of things that pop up near my mouse cursor.

But regardless of whether it'll be practical or not, I'm still curious to find out if this is achievable.
