    phew this may be a long one so bear with me...

    I've got an account with a web hoster that uses NT servers, supporting ASP, Coldfusion, SQL and CGI etc...

    I've also got a new graphical counter "count.cgi" program.

    The path to the perl interpreter I'm told is, c:\perl\bin\perl.exe.

    The very first line of the CGI needs the location of the perl interpreter which 9 times out of 10 looks like this #!/usr/bin/perl.

    Take a look at that, the location their support team gave me is the physical location of the FILE, not the WEB VERSION of the file's location.

    How can I code this so that the CGI reads from that directory? (i.e. file://perl/bin/perl.exe?, or perl/bin/perl) HELP!!!

    #!/usr/bin/perl
    $minLen = 7;

    #This is absolute path of the directory where the counter files are stored. Must be global-writeable.
    $counterdir = "/www/cgi-bin/data/";

    /usr/bin/perl is a UNIX-style directory path, not an Internet/Web-style path (OK so they're the same but in this context...)

    Sometimes on NT servers there is no need for the first line, but if there is, make it:
    #!c:\perl\bin\perl.exe
    Assuming that's the path to Perl.

    $counterdir = "/www/cgi-bin/data/";
    That's UNIX-style too. It's probably something like D:\inetpub\YOURSITENAME\scripts\data or the like.

    Contact your host and ask 'em where your 'Web Root' is and work from there.
