    Question Password protection

    I have used Password protection on a directory on my apache Linux server ( set through Cpanel frontend) website to stop robots accessing the directory. I want to include a hyperlink on the main page that includes the userid and password .

    Can any one help in telling me how to do this?

    Do you mean you want people to click on a link and be able to view a secure page?

    Yes That exactly what I mean. I wan't the only entry to the directory to be through a hyperlink on my main page.

    If you do that robots will be able to follow that link and see that content. I think that would defeat the purpose of blocking that directory with .htaccess.

    I'd like to know how to make a link with the password and userid also for another reason...

    But, if all you are interested in doing is excluding robots why not just use
    a robots.txt file, or a meta tag? e.g.
    <meta name="robots" content="noindex">
