    msconfig startup

I uninstalled my iomega zip drive. However, when i run msconfig, its still listed as a program to start at startup. I unchecked it, but my question is, how can I remove it from the list? Where is this list of programs stored? In the registry or somewhere else?

Assuming you are using Win 98, you'll find it:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    or here:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Just open the Registry Editor and open these key.
CAUTION: Make a backup copy before any changes.

Do a search of the registry for iomega and delete all the entries it brings up, one of them will be the 'culprit'

I did a search on Iomega and nothing came up.

What is Active Dosk? How do I uninstall that? It isn't listed under Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs

If it is not in Add/Remove programs then it has been uninstalled. You can remove them from the startup tab in msconfig as a last resort

I unchecked the boxes in msconfig cause when windows loaded, it tried to load those files and it couldnt find them.

I am just anal, and want those 5 programs removed from the list. I guess they do not hurt anything by being in the list and not being used, but I want it removed cause I'm anal.

ok jkh1978, now you know the problem is not in the windows registry, that's good news.

the next step : check the win.ini file (it's in the windows main directory). Look for the section [windows] (it should be at the beginning of the file) and check the key load= or run=, some programs call its modules from that files (although now the recommended way is use the registry). You can open and edit using the notepad or the windows system configuration utility. Again before any change make a backup copy.

Actually that's not true in general, in fact you can remove any program from the Windows' uninstall list (but only if you want to)

    so jkh1978,

tell us, did you find the program in the startup program group?
