Im looking for an HTML editor to use

im not really in need of alot of formatting options, my main goal is that it recognizes HTML tags and highlights them and that its freeware or shareware.

im not making any money doing HTML yet so im not ready to pay high dollar for a dandy editor... Can anyone reccomend me to somewhere?

Look for the review of freepage on SP somewhere in the archives. I don't use it but I know they say it is very similar to Homesite (which i do use) and if it is similar then it gets my full reccomendation.

I've heard good things about 1st Page (freeware available at download.com). Also check my review of HotDog Pro 6.0 on SitePoint. It's shareware, but it might be out of your price range at US$99.95.

I personally use a "weird combo" of MS-Frontpage Explorer (though getting Interdev soon), Allaire Homesite, Bradbury TopStyle, and Textpad32. I have replaced Frontpage Editor with Homesite and am much happier for it.

Jizbot: Homesite is very different from Dreamweaver and Frontpage Editor in that it is not a WYSIWYG editor but instead a glorified text editor. It does do its job well and is very customizable. Also has a lot less overhead requirements than 1st Page 2000.
