    Questions about Yahoo!

Last week I made my site available to the public and I listed my site manually in all of the search engines. This morning I got an email from Yahoo! saying they listed my site, and should appear in a couple of days. I was quite surprised, I'm not even listed in Google yet.

I'm a little disappointed that they striped down my site description, leaving out the main function of my site. Oh, well I still can't complain.

    Anyway, How does Yahoo work?
How do I keep my ranking up in Yahoo!
Do I have to resubmit to yahoo every so often?
Any other Yahoo tricks? now that I'm listed.

    Thanks

Yahoo! is first and foremost a human-powered directory of sites. All commercial sites must pay to get reviewed for entry and it is up to the editors.

Yahoo! lists sites in directories alphabetically, so you are stuck with where ever they put you.

No, this is not a search engine. If you are in, you are in.
Any other Yahoo tricks? now that I'm listed.
    Just be thankful.

    I'll add:

Yahoo's search ranking is based on keywords. If your keywords are in your title, category name, url, or description, good for you. If not, shoulda planned ahead.

And there currently isn't any search engine that you need to resubmit to. All search engines respider every site in their index at a regular basis (except altavista which lately has been doing it on an irregular basis).

The need to resubmit to search engines is very much a myth now.

I have a commerical site that got listed last week, and I DIDN'T PAY. Someone there simply added us.

And yes, I'm talking about the directory, not the google results.

consider it an early Christmas present, and consider yourself very lucky.

But Yahoo will add commercial sites for free... IF they belong in a non-commercial category.
