Does anybody know of any decent forums I can use on my site ( http://www.f1-grandprix3.net ) other than Ultimate Bulletin Board ( GameStats don't allow me to use them because they slow the server too much ) and UltraBoard, as that has gone pay-only now, and the v1.62 has gone completely.
I don't want to pay $39.95 for a buggy product with no support ( that's what Ive heard anyway).

    Any suggestions?

    P.S I am already using a forum by Network54.

There are a few different options. If you only have perl on your server I'd go for BigTalker. You can get it at http://bigtalker.com .

vBulletin is another but you need mySQL and php3 on your server. I thing vbulletin costs about as much as UBB. The url is http://www.vbulletin.com . Another that uses php and mySQL is Phorum ( http://phorum.org ).

DC Forum is another that you should have a look at. http://www.dcscripts.com is the url as far as I know.

    I would recommend a search at http://hotscripts.com , http://www.perlarchive.com , http://zend.com (if you have php) and http://cgi-resources.com

By the way, I use Bigtalker and am pretty happy with it, although I am always looking at other scripts to keep tabs on the best.

If you would like Ultraborad 1.62 or 1.62.5 I could send them to you. I know I have 1.62.5, and I think I have 1.62 somewhere. email me at forest@esatclear.ie and I'll pass them on to you if you want. I also have UB 2000 personal edition zipped up.

If you have active server page support on your server, you can look at http://aspin.com for a forum script.

If you've got PHP, get Phorum. It's excellent.

If you've got Perl and want to go for the minimalist approach, get Matt Wright's board at http://www.worldwidemart.com/scripts/ .

In my opinion, don't get Ultraboard. Their users are practically rioting against them!

BigTalker is good, however it seems similar to UBB.

UBB is the best but since your host won't let you use it, go with BigTalker if you like UBB's features.

There is an ASP version called ASP-DEV forums which is totally free. It had a UBB feel to it, and there is a SQL and non-SQL version for it. The URL is http://asp-dev.com

There is also a derivative form of this forum called the Snitz 2000 forum(http://forum.snitz.com/) which has been updated since the original version came out, and the guy controlling the version is VERY quick(he averages a new 1-2 times a DAY, sometimes more) to come out with updates and to incorporate suggestions/changes into the forum.

I like this forum a lot. There are only a few code files and a relatively small database layout. It runs quick and is very easy to install. And best of all it's free.

Thanks all for replying to my question.
I am going to download/trial all of the forums and see what my hosts, GameStats support (which I think is everything apart from UBB and Cold Fusion).

    Thanks a lot!
