    Confused with Yahoo!

    Greetings,

I have a site listed in Yahoo. Last week it was at number #20. few days ago it was at number #4. Today it's at #11. All for the exact same keyword. When i first got it in, it was at #2!

Can anybody explain why it is doing this? I thought Yahoo is a directory and once you're in, you'll be at the same spot for a while. I would understand if the ranking falls as new & better "key-word-site-description-url" appears... but fluctuating within a week period?? and no- there's no new listing that is causing these fluctuations. The fluctuation revolve around the same ol companies on the result page.

    anybody?

    I can't remember

Yahoo recently (within the last month or two) partnered with a pay per click engine (can't remember which one) and changed much of how they display search results, so my guess this is what is happening to your ranking. A couple of the SE newsletter I get mentioned that they thought things like this would happen. Who really knows with search engines anyway?

Good, informative article, which clears everything up for me! Good little tutorial on META SEARCH ENGINES hidden in it too!

It gives the comprehensive and unbias view that I like!

MAD to hear that Yahoo is trailing AOL for web properties in November!

yes, i know about overture.. but isn't overture suppose to mess with the top 3 rankings only ( and the last 3 on a certain page). from what i see, there's no overture listings yet, and all the listing that changed position are all in yahoo directory (there's a category > sub category below all of the listings).

if overture listing was included, i don't think there'll be a category > sub category info below each line. also, in most cases, if you rollover an overture listing, the progrss bar will have an overture code in it.

anybody else faced this issue? anymore ideas?

You aren't looking at the Google results are you? google.yahoo.com?

And, just to clarify this is happening in the search results? Not in the directory listings?

Nope, not google results. The real Yahoo directory. Does everyone think I'm crazy?

Yes, crazy, I have no idea why the directory based search results would be changing so. It is possible that sites were added that changed the search results, but it shouldn't be happening so frequently because even then Yahoo only updates every few days.

aspen, i think you have just answered my question in the topic "Yahoo Listing - look!"

my listing is quite new too and it was at the top for a day or two. and fluctuate for a while. Now it stays constant. All happening within a week.

    Does this explains it?

Hopefully it does not change anymore because it's at a comfortable position

thanks aspen.... seems I'm not crazy after all!
