A few specific questions

I'm doing some research in order to present a bit of info on SEO to a few people in my office, and I've hit a few speed bumps. I'm looking for a good website that has answers to these questions, but any input is appreciated. These questions have been danced around on the forum, but not fully addressed yet.

1. Does site traffic affect your rank on Google (or any other search engine)?

2. Does using a PPC program (specifically on Google) have any affect on your natural rankings? I've read threads where people were mistaking their sponsored links as natural, and freaking out when they disappeared, but I haven't been able to find any solid information on this yet.
