Question Domain Aliases & 301 Redirects

My current hosting provider uses Plesk which I love. Whever I setup a domain on standard forward it automatically put it as a 301 redirect. However, recently with the release of Plesk 8 then offer a new feature called Domain aliases. I tried one of these but I am no longer see the 301 code in my http live headers. In fact I don't see the the Aliais domain at all in the live headers. Is there another way to tell if the domain is reporting a 301 moved permanatley or if anyone has delt with this themselves?

Chances are it's not doing a 301 Redirect but instead a domain alias.. as intended

Same domain serves the same content, however one (or both) domains will be punished for duplicate content in the search engines.

http://www.webconfs.com/redirect-check.php checks for you as well

So just for clarification, your saying by having an aliases forward instead of the standard 301 I will be punished for duplicate content?

Does the domain aliasing "forward" or show the same content with a different URL?

If it forwards, and changes MyOtherDomainName.com to MyRealDomainName.com when you browse to it, then you're fine.

If it uses the same content, so going to MyOtherDomainName.com shows the same content, but keeps its URL in the address bar, then that's duplicate content (because two sites with different URLs are identical).

The domain does change to the real domain but my question is about the 301. Is it the same or will the search engine keep looking at the old domain unless I have a 301?
