external link problem
Hi,
just a question.
I have hosted a website, say www.aaa.com on my general domain name and server, under the path www.mysite.com/aaa. I point the domain name www.aaa.com to the path www.mysite.com/aaa. I mainly do this to save on hosting costs.
If I enter www.aaa.com, I get to the correct site, but if I click on a link on that site (which is redirected to www.mysite.com/aaa, remember), the URL does not change to the linked website. It stays www.aaa.com. It looks pretty weird.
Can anyone tell me why this happens, and even better, how I can fix this, without having to buy a complete new hosting package for www.aaa.com?
I hope my question is clear :-)

Are you trying to say that a link on www.aaa.com (let's say it goes to www.aaa.com/somepage.html) will go to www.aaa.com instead of www.aaa.com/somepage.html?

What I try to say :-) is this.
-Type in www.aaa.com
-You end, because of url forwarding, on the site www.sqomesite.com/aaa
-On that site, you click a link (eg : http://www.amazon.com)
-You end up seeing amazon, bit the address bar shows www.aaa.com
How can this happen? I hope I made it more clear :-)

Your 'redirection' is probably done with frames. That's how domain resellers usually provide this sort of service. Your domain URI (www.aaa.com) opens a frameset with one frame that loads the true page (www.mysite.com/aaa). The URL in the browser shows the frameset URI, which doesn't change when you navigate within your site, which resides in a frame pane.

It sounds like your server wasn't configured properly to redirect URLs like that.
I know someone who can help you though. He's not feeling very well at the moment, but perhaps he might be able to chime in.Save the Internet - Use Opera | May my mother rest in peace: 1943-2009
