redirects and cache

When you redirect one page to another, does google delete cache of the first page which was redirected?

Practically, I have found google does keeps a cache of the page (unsure when it gets deleted) I got 1 of my sites accidentally indexed on its IP address (more then 10,000 pages) around a year back, those are still visible in googles cache, when quried via IP>
