    Question Page Titles

    Hi,

I've read a number of times that search engines only show 60 charactors of your page titles in there search results, does this mean if page titles are longer than 60 charactors the search engines penalise you for it?

It will just stop reading after 60 characters. So you should make sure you don't end up having words split in half at the end, it can look a bit weird.

It shouldn't affect your ranking directly, but if you have an important key word or phrase after the 60 character limit, that isn't going to be taken in to account by search engines, so you be affected that way.

And your key consideration should be how it looks to the people that visit your site.

You really should keep your titles small and high in keyword density if you care about seo. It also depends if you are optimizing for big keywords or long tail keyphrases.
