I tried it once, but never could get it to work. I would save the e-mails and then try to open the headers with SpamCap - it would never be able to open them.
The emails themself always seem to get sent, and I get all kinds of reporting back off of them, but I just wonder if any of the spammers actually get shut down?
I doubt it.
Lets face it, the newbie idiot that does it unknowingly, then gets "educated" on netiquet, probably takes the threats seriously enough to quit. Besides he has most likely used his regular or personal ISP and can't avoid the law.
Professional spammers are criminals, they know what they are doing is illegal, so they hide their tracks from the beginning. They set up new accounts in fake names way in advance knowing they will be closing the old ones after a set amount of time. They prolly switch ISP's weekly. They probably switch mailing list managers every couple of months, or stay as long as the MLM lets them. It is very lucitive for both parties, so to put it bluntly "Money Talks"
I like the idea of spamcop and have been to their site, but I'm not sure it works, and it appears to take as much work as deleting the spam in the first place.
Don't get me wrong I hate spam and will support any effort to get rid of it, especially when it is sent to my domain and is eating up my disc space. However, I think by the time you figure out who to prosecute, the spammers have probably already changed their names as well as service providers.
