I thought it was a good idea to make a new Flash resource thread, in a similair style as the Design resource thread

It's a combination of links found in the old .swf thread, other sites and links i have been gathering over the last 2 months since i started working at my new (flash) job.

this thread just got a whole lot stickier

edit: the old thread for those who want to look through it, even though many things might be out of date.

    Nice list

I wonder if you would consider adding our free flash media player? I'm not normally one to blow my own trumpet but this player has been getting very good comments and is used by a lot of satisfied people.

In any case, thanks for the list.

    Good work on the bookmarks.

Maybe you might consider going through the Flash FAQ and updating that for us too?

Sweet...I can just import the source of the page as a bookmark folder (named Flash) to Firefox. Thanks a ton!

Off Topic Suggestion: Use Xenu Link Sleuth on an exported bookmark file occassionally to be sure you no longer have dead links in your bookmarks.

    Done

And not that long ago i also added SWFaddress to the list.

SWFAddress is a small script that sits on top of SWFObject and provides deep linking for Flash websites and applications. In other words it enables the Back, Forward and Reload buttons of the browser and creates unique URLs with page titles that can be sent over email or IM.

    Nice list.

Question for you all. I'm a 100% Noob at Flash, and I keep on getting recruiters calling asking if I know it, and it's more frustrating every time I have to say "nope, sorry".

My first step is to install the free stuff on my XP machine - in other words, have the ability to compile/create something in Flash, before I even want to entertain a tutorial on Actionscript or anything else.

So my questoin is: Is the best link to follow, this one below ? :

    http://www.actionscript.com/Article/...t/Default.aspx

I found this link under the "Tutorial" section in the first post of this excellent thread and clicked on the "ActionScript" link where there were a bunch of resources there and then found the "Towards Open Source Flash Development" link.

At this point, I don't really want to know about Frameworks, or OO Dev't for Flash, etc.. Just want to write something in Flash, so that I could pass an Interview, and then be able to write ActionScript for an employer. That be all.

Thanks. My question, to sum up, is: would this link be a good one i.e. downloading Eclipse and all the tools on that page?

    Update
I joined the "osflash" mailing list, and posted a similar question on how to get started programming Flash on windows, with free tools and got this response:
To start developing with only os tools, the following tools might be of interrested :

As an IDE you can use :
    Eclipse + ASDT (as2)
    Flashdevelop (as2/as3)

As a compiler you can use :
    Flex 2 SDK (actionscript 3)
    MTASC (actionscript 2)

Excellent list. I would like to tag on http://megaswf.com which provides free swf hosting. Also, the swfobject folks recently uploaded v2.0 to http://code.google.com/p/swfobject/ and v1.5 remains on the blog.

Lee Brimelow (Author of gotoAndLearn.com ) also has a blog about Flash related topics - http://theflashblog.com/
The more time I save by not planning and documenting,
the more time I have left to debug.
