    Unwanted Pop-Ups

Not sure if this is the right forum for this. I have been trying to resolve this issue for some time and cannot seem to figure it out.

IT seems as though my own home page has some unwanted pop-up advertisements associated with it somehow. I've cleared my cookies and history numerous times. I noticed that when I checked that little "p[rivacy eye" (new w/ IE6) that it said pop-ups blocked from http://www.popularsites.com/shtml

Can anyone help me figure out what is going on?

It sounds like the company you have your site hosted with has some sort of association with http://www.popularsites.com/shtml
Can you give us the url for your home page and that might shed some more light on the subject

The only popup I saw was the mailing list one

Mmmmm, me too, no pop-up's ??? The only thing I can suggest is doing a search through your registry for the word 'popularsites' and see if it turns up anything. I must admit though, this one is confusing

It's probably in there, but if not, get yourself a copy of AdAware. It kicks butt.

Well Guys...I used th elittle tool on the Jim World site to check for scumware and it said:

    "You don't have eZula TopText
    You don't have Spedia Surf+"

Are there others that I should be looking for? Now I am starting to get completely nasty and disgusting naked people in these pop-ups! Keep Big Bertha's naked bootie to yourself please!

    Do you use Gator?

It pops up unrelated HTML advertisements about every 15 minutes. This is how you pay for your free software.

I had downloaded something from Gator about 6 mos. ago and then I realized what it was doing so I removed it. I though I got all the related files, but maybe not. I don't know where else to look. And I'm getting really peeved about this.

    Stephanie,

Try downloading Ad-Aware from Lavasoft (http://www.lavasoftusa.com) . It will scan your hard drive and Windows Registry for any traces of scumware like Gator, Ezula, etc. and it will delete it for you. Also you can get updates for ad-aware, so that anytime new scumware is out, you already have a defense against it.

    Good luck!

Although I did find a hidden Gator start up file and deleted it, that did not do the trick. I'll let you know how I do w/ Adaware.

    Thanks, guys!

Seems that http://www.lavasoftusa.com is down right now.

Has anyone used the one on this site? http://www.extrawage.co.uk/adwa.htm . Is it safe to use?

Seems I had about 6 different Gator files and some Timesink (?)

    Anyhow, I deleted them all.

    Thanks for the help.

Can you believe I still have these darn ads popping up?

After running the AdAware twice...second time I found one file from Doubltime...its still doing it.

I really want to start some trouble with the company responsible for this or start charging them for the ad space!!!!

I don't blame you. I would try looking around on Google to find these programs and see if you can dig up the appropriate registry entries and other steps you need to kill them.

I didn't find anything about that latest one you mentioned..but there are some great resources out there..hopefully you won't have to nuke your machine
