    How fast do YOU type?

Was just wondering if it is healthy for me to type like I do ...people are always commenting me on my speed, I was just wondering if all coders are like this...or its just me. Is there any website/software that you can get on the net that will allow to see how fast you type?

    Thanks...

I type pretty fast but my typing is atrocious. I tend to retrace my steps on SP and fix it but if you have ever spoken to me on ICQ you will have cringed.

BrainBench.com - run a search and you'll find we had some discussion about this about a year ago. I type pretty quick, but hey, what do you expect?

Is there a place I can take a typing test on-line (preferably free)? I've always been curious as to my typing speed, but I've never been able to really guage how fast I can type.

Thats what I want to know.

I know I type pretty fast, but I'd like to take a test!

    Maybe.

I went to Brainbench and one of their free tests is actually a typing speed and accuracy test. I'm fast when chatting thats for sure. lol We'll see on the test.

    72 Raw words per minute.
69 Accuracy adjusted words per minute.

    It says I've scored a 92% and given me 3.3. I suppose that's good....

    Ugh.

I got a whopping 42 wpm. It doesn't help much that this keyboard isn't all that great, but even with my old one, I could probably only do 55.

I've been on a computer for almost 15 years (*sniff* I miss my Tandy 1000) and that's the best I can do...

I got 40 RWPM, but thats actually quite good considering what I used to be like. I also find that im much faster if theinformaion is coming out of my head rather than reading of a screen as I cant quite touch type yet!

I took the test last night and got:

Name: Typing Speed & Accuracy Score: 3.6 Date: 2001-11-28

Scored higher than 96% of all previous test takers.

Raw Words Per Minute (WPM): 79 WPM
    Accuracy-Adjusted WPM: 78 WPM
Overall score represents the accuracy-adjusted score placed on a scale of 1.0 - 5.0. Raw WPM represents the words per minute typed without regard to accuracy. Accuracy-adjusted WPM represents words per minute typed correctly.

I only scored 56 WPM, accuracy 55 WPM. If I wouldn't go back and fix things, the WPM would be much faster, but the accuracy would be CRAP....

Besides, I had a hard time because I would never write like that. The editor in me was fighting it the whole time

I did badly, but I wouldn't 'talk' like that. And it's american, so I wouldn't go spelling organisation with a Z and checking for them.

    Ah well.

My form is the worst but I type around 80 words a minute. Fast enough considering I don't have all the fingers to place on the keyboard

Those tests are meant more for people who are reading from a paper or screen. I find they are useless for people who create on the go. I could never keep up on the tests but give me an idea and I go nuts
