Sharing the business idea and domain rights

    Hello dear Sitepointers,

My partner and I are opening new site and we just met each other. However, we do trust each other, but sometimes it is better to put some things on the paper.

We had idea and we both will work on the site development and marketing.

We both live on the two completely different continents (none of us in U.S.) and we are going to share all the profits 50-50.

Is there any way we can assure each other and sign some kind of partnership?

I'm in almost the exact same boat as you (except I live in the US). If anyone could offer any insight into this it would be appreciated. Or if you know where I could start that would be great.

This is the advice I received on other forum...

My advice would be to contact a lawyer specializing in international law, and have him write a contract for this agreement. For this I would imagine it would be easier to decide which country the company will be based out of, so then you could make sure to follow all the laws of that country, specifically contract laws.

Excellent advice tomovuk. It may be difficult to find one, but I think a good way to start would be to call a law firm and ask them to refer you to an International specialist.

It's the debts, losses and liabilities of the business you need to be more worried about if you're thinking of entering into some kind of legal partnership. For example, in many countries each partner in a legal business partnership is personally responsible for all the debts and liabilities of all the other partners, if they default on their share.

As others have suggested, you should ideally get professional advice and be very careful what you sign.
