    User registration system in Rails?

Does Rails have anything that makes a user system easier to make? I am surprised that I have not seen any tutorials on this around.

There are generators, but it's a pretty straight forward process. Luke even posted an example, search for topics that I've created, it's something along the lines of "Idiomatic Password Encryption" in the Ruby forum.

Personally, I don't use generators. Mostly because every project I work on has slightly different requirements I find it is easier to just start from scratch each time. Rails makes creating a user registration system so easy anyway that a generator won't really save that much time (unless you need a really simple right-out-of-the-box solution).

But yeah, there is also an engine. I have yet to play around with the concept of engines at all though. It's on my list of things to do... if I ever get a moment to breathe.

So there is no special built in ability for users in Rails (or is that what an engine is)? I found the thread you were referring to, IAIHMB, but I am looking for something with all the views needed could be created in the same way you can generate scaffolding. auth_generator seems to be the way to go, but I am still suprised something like this isn't built into Rails.

    This: http://weblog.rubyonrails.org/2005/1...t-distracting/

    and this:

Seem to answer my question, it was the "generate" keyword that improved my search results.

acts_as_authenticated works for a really simple signup/login system and can be extended pretty easily.

I'm with Vinnie on the acts_as_authenticated plugin, it makes adding authentication to your web app pretty trivial.

Also it works with Bill Katz's Authorization plugin should you want more fine-grained authorization in the future.
