SIngle javascript help

Hello I have a form that I have a ton of validation on in javascript however I just am not have much sucess creating a function that will popup with the onsubmit function if the user has not selected a .pdf file.

If anyone can provide some help my brain is fried at the moment and any effort seems to be well useless....

Or you could tell us how they select your pdf files?
Radiobuttons? Menu drop downs?
