If you're shipping thousands of dollars of computer equipment, spend $25 to get the materials to pack your stuff well. Assume that your packages are going to be dropped, and pack accordingly.

Here's a place with a lot of good info: http://www.twaze.com/arp/arp.html

Yes, but this is beyond your simple wear and tear. Dropping the box on the floor wouldn't do this! Looks like someone took a crowbar to it.

    woaaah

I had a PC damaged once by Qantas airfreight shipping it over from NZ. But it was only a relatively minor crack on the corner of the case and it was a 5-year old 486 anyway. I was pi$$ed still - but it was nothing like on this scale...

I'd be surprised if this person packed it at all. There's NO WAY some of that damage could have happened in shipping. Did you see the RCA input jack? Besides...it says he packed it with bubble wrap...whoah...bubble wrap SUCKS for packing heavy items. THe monitor must weigh at least 35 pounds. You needs heavy foam insulation or styrofoam to support that much weight.

It also seems that this person declined to declare a value for this equipment as he states that UPS paid him $0. People, it costs .35 per $100 of value.

This is this guys fault for not packing it right to begin with. One thing to keep in mind. UPS ships about 13-14 million packages a day. No package should have this happen to it but when you think about it, it's amazing that MORE things like this don't happen.

I find it highly hard to believe that that actually happened during shipping, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't some sort of insurance scam or something??

It looks like it was hit by one of the UPS trucks!
Plug the monitor in, and you'll smell smoke.
    Whaaa?

Now, I'm just wondering, if all his equipment was destroyed, how did he get online to post the pics?

Well, even if this is true, I still like UPS.

I don't really know to believe that site. But, things like that do happen.

I worked at a independant shipping center for over 6 years...

All computers were wraped in a static free plastic bag, then wrap once around the item with 1" bubble wrap. Around the bubble wrap was 3" of foam board, then a 2ply card board box. The same was done with monitors. Misc items as keyboards, cables, mice ect were wraped in bubble wrap, and taped to the computer, or sent in a 2nd package.

Of the 200+ computers i packed over the last few years, i have only had one damaged in shipping, UPS promptly replaced that computer for the full retail amount, as they couldnt find any flaws in my packing job.

You can easyly pack computers yourself, but you need to know what your doing, better yet, take the computer to an independant AMPC shipping center, It should cost between $35 - $50 to pack a computer. And yes, insurance is worth every penny.

I think he was just trying to get rid of his Mac so that he could go fully PC.

Just the once? It must have backed up a few times too!

I think this person was very naive to just throw his/her PCs and monitors into cardboard moving boxes like that (as they appear to have done). Obviously they did not package the goods appropriately. Typical mac user - more dollars than sense! Don't flame me - I'm a mac user too!

It sounds like they have realised their expensive lesson though - giving advice on how they should have packaged the goods.

    lol!

i like UPS though... my dad and i sent a package to hawaii one time, and with the UPS here, you pack it yourself.. so we packed it wiht wood.. a crate thingy that we had made ourselves.. and sure enough, our package got there safely 3 days later.
i think they're great still.. and you can send almost anything through them, be it money- fresh fruit or swords!
that guy probably just has bad karma!
all about knives? what would i know about em? oh well.. whatever!
