IE5 and IE4 compatibility - please view this site

Hi All

I would be most grateful if those with IE5 and IE4 could take a look at the below url:

and tell me if everything is lining up properly.

Incidentally, do you know if it's possible to install IE5/4 alongside IE6?

You can use a "standalone" version of those old browsers. I used to do it until last year, but already stoped designing with them in mind.

Why bother with either, particularly IE4? No one uses it.

Agreed, thats like designing a site for Netscape 2.....!

Nice site btw but unfortunately doesn't line up in Opera 9 or Firefox 1.5.04

This will give you an idea of current browser usage and other useful stats (avoid technical forums' figures, as techies are usually more upto date than the average user)

On these figures, IE4 is about 0.1% of users...

I have Firefox 1.5.05 and I can see it o'right...

I now have FF 1.5.05 but it still aint quite right!
the top half of the page is over to the right but the bottom portion (pattern) is centered..

(unless of course it's supposed to be like that in which case it's fine )

If I re-size the FF or IE7 browser window gradually (always a good way to spot errors), it's clear that the background image is top left and the rest of the content is centered, so on resolutions/widths greater than 1024, it falls apart as the content moves over but the image stays behind.

Try centring the background image with no-repeat (it is currently just no-repeat)

Don't sit working with the window full screen, it masks many errors. Work with it at a width of about 700-900px and regularly make it wider/narrower to check what happens.

Many thanks for all the replies guys. In particular, thank you Dr John. You were right about the background image, which I have now changed to be centred and that has done the trick. Really appreciate it.
