    Logo comments please?

Some of you know that I've been working on a logo for my professional site for a while now. I've decided that I just need to finish it up. I've narrowed it down to two logos and I'd like to get input from you on them please.

The domain name/name of the site is "commadelimited.com" and it's going to be my personal/professional site. It'll be geared mostly towards programmers/developers and feature Coldfusion coding tips and tricks, code snippets, commentary on various new web technologies and any open source code projects I decide to release.

The top logo takes commadelimited literally, it's the word comma, "delimited". I really like the concept behind this one but I'm not usually a fan of "wide" logos.

The second one is a really nice mark, hip, nice thick lines, bold colors but it doesn't "mean" anything to the site, other than being cool.

So what are your thoughts on these two options? Likes, dislikes? Note that the colors are not finalized but feel free to comment on them if you like.

    where are the commas?

i would've expected to see a logo which played on something like

    C,O,M,M,A,D,E,L,I,M,I,T,E,D

and yes, this thread may need to get moved

I would also have expected to see a comma in there somewhere!
Personally I like the second set better I think it would work better on a print version eg: business cards, letterheads etc

    Good job creole

I'll comment on the "comma" thought. I originally had several logo ideas which had commas in them. Problem is though that everything I did with them made it look more like an apostrophe than a comma. Plus the comma has an unwieldy shape which gives lots of negative space in the bottom left corner area. So I tried to think outside of the box instead of quite so literally.

So that's the thought process I went through, for the record.

What is comma delimited about? Whats the goal of the website? Without knowing that, we'd be commenting on how you can visualise "comma delimitted" rather than how the branding works for your company, which is what branding is all about and not about visually translating words into symbols.

So yeah, tell us some more about comma delimitted.

I wish i knew why either option doesn't work for me! Atleast for option 2, I feel that it is close to the CF, especially with the blue. Some people wouldnt mind this as they piggy back on another company's branding.

I'm just trying to think of a clever way or a smarter way to do this. Maybe you just need to do a few more options, option two has promise, tweak that, maybe separate the C and D

I was playing with something, it's REALLY bad, but you can take it and use the concept. Have you noticed the "arrow" in the FedEx logo? Similarly you can hide the "Comma" in your logo with the c and d.

Like i said, it's a really bad image but hey, if it helps... it helps! You might want to separate the c and d at the top too... or just play with that whole concept and if it were a waste of time then i'm glad you don't know where i live!

Just need to play with that a bit. So you have a smart logo... you know...

    Here's a SLIGHTLY better representation!

Color... perspective... whatever or even disregard this but definitely do some more options.

I'm giving that a try. Bear in mind that I've already done about 5 or 6 versions and honed it down to these two options. Here's a version though with the comma inside the D. I don't mind it all actually. It's nice.

    Creole,
The last option is nice, the black d with the comma. I don't want to overthink it but maybe if you cut a gap on the top arch of the d so that it looks like a "C" and a "D" or left in it's present state could be branded as just ", delimited" rather than branding comma as a word....

I do think the comma can be used in loads of fun ways to bran your site... and should be part of your logo.. for ex, if you have a tip, you could possibly have someone sitting on a chair smoking a pipe.. the pipe is in the shape of the comma... you know... you can use that well recognised symbol in so many fun ways and strengthen your brand. Or thought bubbles... whatever.

If at all, i like the amount of information you captured in that simple graphic.

Offtopic: THe other logo with the C wrapping around the D sparked an idea for a logo i've been tossing around in my head for a LONG time now! NOthing similar so, no, i'm not stealing it!

@dark tranquility. site will be based on the feel of the logo, so I have nothing until the logo is finalized.

@conradical. I just tried that and it loses the comma.

I really like the last logo (3rd one, not the original two). The comma in the D looks pretty cool. I think most people probably wouldn't get your first logo at the top. I understand it's geared towards programmers, but most peope don't spend the time to think about the true meaning behind a logo. A "C" and "D" is much better. Plus, by using the smaller one, you will have more room on your webpage for other content.

The black and green ones are the best of the four. If you made the green slightly darker, it would be a lot nicer.

I think I have seen a company called "comma", but I may just be imagining things.

Why don't you try to incorporate the comma in the "o", it seems pretty logical to put it there and it will fit nicely with the rest

The black is best imo, the other colors lack saturation, seem light/pastel...

Could always center the second option behind the first one, and layer the first one over itself (offset from the bottom) to achieve a very nice effect.

    valmont...

Not sure what you mean. Do you have an example? It sounds like you're saying that you suggest combining the top and bottom logos. One of my co-workers also suggested the same thing.

Creole, can you do a quick version of what your co-worker suggested. I'm afraid i don't understand what valmont said either and i'm curious to see what your co-worker suggested!

Well, he didn't actually give a suggestion other than just "why not combine the two of them."

The combined one isn't as good. For dumb people, like me, we might not figure out what it means.

Whilst I think Dark Tranquility's concept looked excellent, I'd have to say as well that it'd still be fairly confusing. I'd have to agree with everyone in saying that a comma would pretty much be required.
