I like checks. No fuss, no fees, no problem. Every Friday someone stamps the checks and makes an ATM deposit. There is a nice paper trail and it's easy.

I say: why give away 3% if you don't have to?

Cheques or BACS payments account for most, though some folks like to pay smaller invoices with paypal.

It's changed quite a bit for us over the past 2 years or so. Our volume in credit card transactions each month hasn't increased; however our business has grown many times over. The additional revenue (what seems to be the lion's share of the transactions) are now in wire transfers and checks. It's great. When you consider the cost of credit card processing, even for a modest web development company, is easily thousands annually, those other forms of payment (wires, checks) become much more appealing.

PayPal - we have been using them for years. And we are happy. Why to look for anything else?

for those who accept checks, what is the minimum $ you've received cheques for? What's the average amount?

Do you only accept certified cheques.. what about insufficient funds, etc.?

I only accept Paypal under $1k. At that point, it becomes more cost effective to accept (and pay the fee for if I have to) wire transfers.

Lightbulb Checks - that's in multiple

I only accept checks, or cash, but prefer the paper trail. I also photocopy every check I get and file it.

I also ask for half or a large deposit down on the project. This helps prevent overdrafts, as you are getting money upfront. Overdrafts are a reality, and hopefully are due to bad accounting, and not bad people!

I'll accept a check for any amount!! :

I have never had a problem with NSF checks. I don't really deal with that kind of client. The one time I had a check bounce, I sold it to a collection agency right away and took a 60% recovery on it.
