Hi all,

I have a clients current website which they would like to add a new section to which the general public cannot view unless he has informed them of the address.

If the current website is (for example):
www.photography.com

I understand that this would be the easiest option:
www.photography.com/commercial

BUT
Is it possible to put a new section on the site under:
www.downloadphotography.com/commercial
Or does that involve purchasing a new domain name?

Depending on your ISP you should be able to set up your own sub-domain for free, so in your case download.photography.com. You'll still need to secure it though because just because the URL isn't propagated and even if you ban SE bots from the sub-domain, there's still a chance that people could stumble across it by accident.

you could do something like:
www.commercial.photography.com

this will entail you setting up a sub-domain. Most hosts offer this for free, or a very minimal setup fee. This just then points to a folder called "commercial" in your root directory.
