How to register my business (webhosting) and aquire Business Number In Canada?

    Hello,
I have been browsing and trying to figure out how to register my webhosting as a small business in canada and get business number or do i not need it as income per year from it way less than 30,000 so no gst/hst is needed i suppose.

Anyone here from canada and owns webhosting knows about it or anyone else involved in hosting.

    Thanks.

While I no longer live there (Canada), I think you're right about the $30k exemption for GST. But you will still have to pay taxes on your earnings.

One advantage of registering for the GST is that you can subsequently write off the GST you pay on business purchases. IE your computer, and software you buy, a desk, whatever.

The paperwork is a hassle, but I always recommend incorporating. That way if you ever have a problem, the customer will be suing your company, not you directly. It's insurance.

Just go down to your local courthouse and ask them for the paperwork if you're doing a sole proprietorship.

If you want to incorporate there are lots of companies that will do the paperwork for you, get you a business number, etc... Just do a search in google.

Thats what i have been doing, hell i even emailed gov. of canada(canada.gc.ca) and they gave me following links but i couldnt figure out which category my webhosting falls under its no where to be found.
    Code:
Information on Business Number requirements is accessible from the
"Business" section of the Canada Revenue Agency Web site at the following
    URL:

    Do you need an account
    http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax/business/topics/bn/needone/menu-e.html

Links to additional information for entrepreneurs are accessible from
the Canada Business Web site at the following URL:

    Canada Business
    http://canadabusiness.ic.gc.ca/gol/cbec/site.nsf/en/index.html

    Contacting Canada Business

I went to the first link but cannot find any info to register my webhosting as there is no category for it at all.

Do it under Computers. It really doesn't matter all that much. If you need to go somewhere more local, try this listing:

    http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/contact/tso-e.html

Seriously.... google is your friend. I found that, first link, "canada ccra offices" Just call. If they see you want to register, and therefore pay taxes, they will be very helpful. At least that's what I found when I was still up there.

Like Billy said, just pick the category that suits you best. The categories are only used for statistical/reporting purposes anyway.

Get in touch with any of the companies taking care of incorporating in Canada and they will guide you through the process. It's quite painless.

You can also check if the community you live in has a resource center for small businesses. For example, here in Mississauga there is the Mississauga Business Enterprise Centre located at the central library that offers services, education, and other help for people getting started who have questions like you do.

    Hey,

I did this a few years ago for my web development co.

I registered a name for the company (you dont' need to register if you are operating under your own name) and got a vendors permit and gst number.
I did this all through their small business website, you can get to it via the cra website.
For gst while it is true you don't technically need to register until the year after you make $30,000, the government is allowed to back charge you for the amount over 30,000 if they feel it is necessary (if you had made a large amount of money, say over 100,000 or so).
Depending what province you are in, you may have to charge pst on webhosting, each province is different, call your local retail sales tax office and find out.
Also, I just registered under computer services, that is not that important.

    Good luck

    http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=...atchewan&meta=

    First link -
    http://www.cbsc.org/servlet/ContentS...GuideInfoGuide

Link in the first paragraph -
    http://www.cbsc.org/sask/

    Which leads you to -
    http://www.saskjustice.gov.sk.ca/Cor...mingcorp.shtml

Or as we've stated, call your local courthouse/get it done online.
