I have begun laying out my business model and the tools that I will use. I have decided that MySQL and PostgreSQL will fit my needs for all of the web stuff.... But I need a database that runs on Windows (as well as a Linux/FreeBSD version) that is inexpensive.... Any suggestions? I am trying to stay away from MS SQL.
Well I am going to use a mix of MySQL and PostgreSQL for web stuff.... I need a database for client side things. Something small that can run on a small server and handle transactions.
My company will be handling web applications as well as software apps.
i think that i would go for postgresql....as you know mysql doesn't handle transactions (commit, rollback, etc.) it's fast for queries, but not robust enough for serious things.
No not all of the products will be web based... And there is only one version of PostgreSQL that will run on Windows correctly and I can never get it to download!
I was thinking about Sybase, Informix, DB2, etc.... but I don't know how Python connects to Sybase and I cannot find any info on it.
Well let me lay out the business philosophy and maybe that will help.
I want to offer programming services to small businesses around the area at a cheaper price than the big boys do. I want to develop software that can be used by these small businesses to help them with their jobs but I don't want the products to cost an arm and a leg. Since most small businesses have never heard of Linux I will definitely suggest it and give them reasons why.... But if they are Windows centered then I don't want to lose business
The databases would need to sit @ the place where the server is (the customer's office). So a small database that can handle about 10 to no more than 100 employees accessing it at the same time would not bring it down.
