That's the book I was leaning towards, I haven't ordered it yet though.
glenplake,
I read the articles on the internet about normalization and so on, but I would like to have a deeper understanding on how to properly design (larger) databases.
have I got your answer, fundamentals of database design is the BEST book out there! for many reasons:
1. it isn't leaning towards learning a software package, rather it teaches you the science of proper database design.
2. it is recognized by leading universities as being a strong book (2 semester course).
3. it will teach you normalization to BCNF and will teach you relational algebra in order to optimize your queries....
4. towards the end it teaches you about oracle and sqlserver.
