create new form element

First of, my apologies as I know this has to be a , but I've been searching for a while now and nothing, so here goes.

Question: How do I create a new element in a form using js?

Idea: I click on an anchor tag which takes me to a js function of 1 argument. The argument is a value. I need to create an element for this value in the form, assign the value to it, and submit it.
Again, sorry for the faq and thanks for help!


Edit: Okay, so maybe it wasn't such a FAQ. I resulted to using hidden variables and setting them with the javascript. I am interested in learning how to do the above though if anyone knows?
