    ------------------------------------
Now this email is from a friend of mine. He Sent it to everyone in his address book, to promote his company, trying to make it look like he was asking for advice.

I sent him a nice email back:
-notifying him that this was spam.
-telling him atleast most profesional spammers don't keep all the addresses in the TO field exposing them to everyone else.
-Correcting all of his spelling and grammer mistakes

Good guy, but no clue on how to be profesional. I am saving him the embarassment of letting you guys see his website...

    Dan

BTW, if my friend reads this- sorry...

if you are a friend then it is NOT spam, as you have solicitated contact with him

its just an email telling you to visit his site and tell him what you think, i get icq msg`s from about 8 friends everytime they pop a new update or something, its not spam because there friends

Well I would disagree the way he sent out the message to eveyone in his address book I would classify it as spam. He is trying to get information about his company to anyone and everyone.

I have told him what I thought of his website before. He didn't like the comments too much...

    But that is my opinion,

    Dan

    I agree with Itec.

When I launch a new site, everyone on my ICQ list knows about it. I don't send messages to anyone that I don't have on my buddy lists.

If someone launches a site that is community base or informative I have no problems with recieving such a large mass notification.

But his website is totally commercial for his computer company. There is no information other then his products, services, and "comunity programs" (targeted selling).

    <---end quote--->

I am a friend, and if he was emailing it to me as a friend I would have no problems with it. But he emailed it to me as the CEO of his company not as a friend. I don't even think he sent it to me because I was a friend. He saw me as a potential customer. Just look at the "To whom it may concern"...

I know sucessful business owners use networking and such but its not like I didn't already know about his business. He had asked me to be in charge of his server and site, and I turned him down.

maybe I have a different opinion of spam then most but oh well...

I think I agree with you Missing Arrow. I would consider it spam.

If he approached you and said "hey dan... my new website is up, what do you think of it? cheers for now..." then you probably wouldn't have thought twice about having a look.

There is no excuse for treating your friends like that! Whilst sending personal emails to everyone in the address book maybe time consuiming, I would have thought you are more likely to get helpful responses rather than treating friends as potential customers.
