Selling Advertising on a site

Where can I find out more information about selling advertising.

My immediate questions:

Can I have requirements for add size (150 X 150 pixels)?
Do I need to track clicks on the adds, in order to make an easier sell? Or can I just charge a monthly amount and not worry too much about statistics for the different sections of the site?
How much do I charge? Where can I get some guidelines?
Any information regarding planning and implementing an advertising marketing campaign would be great.

Varies

I think it varies between clients and how you want to set it up.
If you had large traffic and a big enough advertiser, Im sure an advertiser wouldn't mind having a whole month chunk of space for a good deal. But if you aren't tracking the hits, I really doubt they are going to want to pay any CPM

Hi,

You can and should have regulations on the type, and
size of ads you run. You should also install a program
to track statistics, advertisers like that kind of
stuff

Depending on your site, you should charge a CPM or CPC
rate. If you run a freebies type site then you may have
problems finding this kind of advertiser, in which
case CPA deals may be the way to go.

Good luck!

Re: Selling Advertising on a site

Can I have requirements for add size (150 X 150 pixels)?
If you are selling your own advertising, it is completely up to you in what sizes you want to offer. It would be in your best interest, however, to run as many varieties as possible to lure more advertisers in. But make sure what you run, you have appropriate locations on your site to run them!
Do I need to track clicks on the adds, in order to make an easier sell? Or can I just charge a monthly amount and not worry too much about statistics for the different sections of the site?
It depends. What kind of traffic are you getting? It would be a good idea to track click-thrus... and to do that, you'd need some sort of software (phpAds, AdCycle, etc.) If you are just starting out, you can charge a flat monthly fee, but if you get large amounts of pageviews (thousands and thousands a day), then you might go for the CPM route.
How much do I charge? Where can I get some guidelines?
Above all, be familiar with what your competitors and similar sites charge. This is not saying copy their rates, but it will give you a good idea on what range to ask. More info: http://adres.internet.com and http://www.theadstop.com .

Hey sweet

Thanks for those sites! I was just checking out the second one and I found another site through it that seems to be pretty useful, this ad360.com if anyone is interested. I dunno, these sites can be great, sometimes they are just not highly visited though.

I figure if you just keep going at it and finding as many sites to post your rates as possible, you'll succeed just by pure force of will.
