    user name

    hi there,

    i want to know from which user name the user is logged on computer in php.
    (windows user name)

    is it possible to find the name or not

    that question was the system user name but now am asking to get the name of the currently logged in user,
    i think there is much difference in today and yesterdays question

    oh ok i didnt see the distinction.

    php runs on a seperate computer than the user who is visiting your website. because of this, the only information which is available to php is information which the browser sends to php. unless you can get the browser which is installed on thier computer to do this for you, or get the user to install an executable program which will collect this data and then send it to your website, youre out of luck.

    i think one time i heard IE has something that can be used for something like this. i have no idea what its called, and what you have to do to get IE to do this for you.

    to summarize, the answer is no, php alone cannot get this information for you.
