Smile Looking for some good AJAX tutorial sites

I've searched around and found some examples and tutorials but nothing for what i'd like to learn how to do.

I'd like some real time notifications or alerts when values change. Much like when a new email is received, only I would like to check a system file.

So if anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciated it.

    Thanks in advance.

That's not something you would really use AJAX for. That's more the role of a cron job or some server side script. Unless I am just not seeing what you are trying to accomplish properly. How would you plan to use AJAX to accomplish this?

Hi, thanks for the response. I guess I'm looking for sort of a rss script.

A java program creates a 'flag' file. Currently I use php to detect if the file is there then display the notice in the header of an admin screen. But the only way to see it is to constantly refresh the page in an iframe. I was looking for a more useful, real-time solution. What I was looking to do is create an xml document using php then use ajax to display the content.
    Sound possible?
