IkonBoard is powered by Perl, while pphBB is powered by PHP and MySql.
Im looking for a forum, and after seeing other peoples forums.. i decided I liked phpBB and IkonBoard the best. Problem is, i dont know which one to choose .
The good thing about phpBB is that i can upgrade easily to phpbb2 (area51.phpbb.com) once it comes out. But untill then, IkonBoard looks to be a better vbulliten (If vb was free then i'd take it.. heh) clone.
In your minds, which do you think is better? phpbb or ikonboard?
Im looking for the one that has better/more features, easy to modify and has some support. Installiation doesnt matter.. as long as it doesnt take a rocket scientist 4 hours to install it.
It depends on what you want to do.. i'm still new to the forum thing. It may look crap but you can do alot with it..

IB has launched it lattest version RC2 which they claim is 99% bug free and can be used as the main board.
They have also added some nice features.
It's worth giving a try out.

I am just currently testing this version and I must say I am extremly happy with it, the only bug I have seen in it so far is print topic where it says the topic was started by who ever posted last instead of who actually started it but i shoudl eb able to fix that easily enough myself.
Thsi version is so good I think it may kill UBB for good, between ikonboard and vbulliten I can't see why anyoen would want to pay for UBB anymore.

Most of the members here don't like YaBB, but i havent had any trouble with it.

I am one of those that hates yabb boards, I have never tried to run oen myself, But as a user, they are the worst board I have ever come across with the exception of them really old type of boards e.g www board.
I am completely new to this, just starting learning PHP too. I installed a PHPBB Board and I love it. Even added a few hacks already. It is nowhere near to being finished but you can see it in action here. Literally it took 5 mins to set up, then I started customising it which is the process I am going through now. www.gib-online.com/forums
Thanks for your comments, I did not do the logo it was designed for me by one of the members here, Federico Carnales. The board os working fine, but I haven't finsihed the design yet as I am redoing the whole network in PHP and mySQL and will be integrating the board into that.
what about vbulliten? what are the pros and cons versus the other ones being talked about? i see vbulliten in use more and personally i think it looks nicer.
