home page too clutterd...

hey guys.

I need some advice. I'm trying to design this home page for this organization and everything I'm trying seems to be too much or too little. Here's the screenshot.

My fly in the perfume is in the middle of the page where I have my nav menu finally in a place that won't conflict with the text paragraph (which MUST be there) on the left. Then there was still too much deadspace in the middle, so I put the random quote generator in. Now it's too cluttered. Also, I need to have it so when a user clicks on the "Take the Challenge" Link, a browser window pops up with the entirety of a paragraph of text. I need some help on this.

Look, I hesitate to do this, but the site will be public in days so I will go ahead and give out the htaccess password so you can have a look at the page itself. username is general. password is codingguru.

hmmm...It looks fine in IE6, 800x600 and highter....

Very strange. At any rate, I uploaded an edited version of that page, so maybe it will display better.

I think the reason it looks so cluttered is because of all the contrasting colors. I see you have most blue in the site. If you are going to go with blue then you have to tone down that logo a little bit. It seems to scream with all those bright colors. Also you have too much stuff conflicting on the page. What i mean is you have alot of stuff that grabs your attention. I always try to draw their attention to maybe the nav bar or content first and then in smaller text further down the page and secondary and other content. This way you don't have alot of stuff conflicting with each other in the main part of the page.
