    Automatic website validating

    Just wondering if anyone uses anything fancy out there to automatically go through website pages and check for html validity?

    We have experience in using selenium and JWebUnit for automated testing in general, but they don't seem to have support for html validation.

    thanks

    Hi,

    HTML Tidy is usefull for doing this. You can run it along with the linux find command or xargs command like so:

    find -iname "*.html" -type f -exec tidy [command line options] '{}' \;

    or

    find -iname "*.html" -type f | xargs tidy [command line options]

    check the documentation and test out html tidy on a few files to get an idea of what you want, then run either command (The second should work faster) to get what you're looking for.

    Firefox has an extension that does this, too (it is based on HTML Tidy).

    If you visit the Scrutinizer there is a link to a sitewide Validator which, although not strictly automated at least does the whole site in one go! It's the WDG validator.

    There is also a spider-type thing that you can get to crawl your site and validate it - but for the life of me I can't remember it's name!
