    Run Down on the Stats

For Jake and anyone else who is interested here's an explaination of the stats.

    Code:
    Sitepoint.com - 10/143 after 27.2 overs

Batsman Score (Balls)	How Out Strike Rate

    	SlitheryImp 1 (4) lbw. Dixie Flatline 25.00
    	DigitaL 26 (24) b. Dixie Flatline 108.33
    	Nicky 5 (13) b. Bettsie ct. DynamoUltra 38.46
    	Heman maximus 16 (19) lbw. Bettsie 84.21
    	iTechno 6 (5) b. Glen Nugent st. DynamoUltra 120.00
    	Mike Empuria 40 (49) Not Out 81.63
    	silentcollision 12 (19) lbw. Bettsie 63.16
    	HAWK 7 (6) b. mjedw1 116.67
    	fisherboy 0 (2) b. Glen Nugent ct. DynamoUltra 0.00
    	bcr 2 (7) b. Bettsie ct. Action_Force 28.57
    	jake4974 28 (16) b. Glen Nugent st. DynamoUltra 175.00

    	Bowler Overs Runs Wickets Economy

    	Action_Force 1 5 - 5.00
    	Glen Nugent 6.2 44 3 7.10
    	Bettsie 6 26 4 4.33
    	mjedw1 6 33 1 5.50
    	Dixie Flatline 8 35 2 4.38
Sitepoint.com - 10/143 after 27.2 overs = we lost all ten of our wickets and scored 143 runs. All of that took the other team 27.2 overs of bowling. There are 6 balls in an over and in cricket the .2 means two balls of the last over. Therefore it took 164 balls to finish us off.

Taking SlitheryImp as the first example. He scored 1 run in the 4 balls that were bowled at him. The bowler Dixie Flatline was the one who got him out by an LBW (Leg Before Wicket i.e. if the ball hadn't hit his leg it would have hit the stumps). Slitheryimp's strike rate was 25 which means that he would have scored 25 in 100 balls had he not gotten out.

The b. in the how out column means that the batter was bowled i.e. the ball hit the stumps. Other possible ways of getting out could have been c. meaning caught, st. meaning stumped (the wicket keeper got the ball and hit the stumps with it whilst the batsman was out of his crease), run out (the ball hit the stumps whilst the batsman was making a run).

For the sake of completion, other less common ways to get out are Handled the Ball (the batsman uses his hands to stop the ball from rolling on to the stumps), Timed Out (the next batsman takes more than 3 minutes to get to the stumps after the last batsman is out), Double Hit (the batsman hits the ball twice), Obstructing the Field (the batsman stops a fielder from catching the ball or making a run out) and Hit Wicket (the batter hits the stumps with his bat or body). The last one is responsible for the classic cricket commentary where the legendary commentator Brian Johnston broke down with laughter after Ian Botham hit the wicket and Jonathan Agnew said "he couldn't quite get his leg over".

    Hope that helps

Thanks Mike. I think I may just be starting to understand it a little bit. I did check out those links you posted. I'm working obscenely long hours lately so in my spare time my wits are more than a wee bit dull. Combined with the fact that I can't seem to stop trying to understand by equating many things with baseball (which I already understand quite well), I think I actually wound up more mystified.

The only question I have is in regards to: "we lost all ten of our wickets and scored 143 runs". Each team has a limited number of wickets? Never mind, I think I need to check the links out again. This isn't a "Learn about Cricket" thread.

There are 11 in a team. When batting you have to have two batsmen on the field at a time. When a batman is out he has "lost his wicket". You have ten wickets because you can lose ten players - it is over when you have one batsman left (he is usually written as not out e.g. I was 40 not out today).

Hawkheadquarters.com made 4/144 in 19 overs, so they won the bonus point as well. Sitepoint's leading wicket taker was DigitaL (the opening batsman) with 2/7 in one over

Sure! How about we arrange a time for Sunday's 3rd/final one day match? This should give us suitable time to arrange for timezones as well.

Feel free to make suggestions as to how it could be done, such as on IRC etc etc. It is also possible to have it on MSN Messenger, on a multi-person conversation window.

wow. In one over 2 wickets and 26 runs ( SR: 108) cool! I am improving. I love fast batting.

    But we lost

Hope we will win next one!

Insulting your future team mates is hardly the way towards a happy dressing room. Welcome aboard Nigel.

Hoo, haa. That's like wicked clever. Did you pick that up from the bargain bin at your local joke shop?
Good thing Captain Mike welcomed you aboard. It's a lucky thing that it also happens to be true, that's a "plank walking" worthy intro in my books.

Very disappointing performance by Sitepoint.com today in the final ODI

    Hawkheadquarters.com vs Sitepoint.com, 3rd ODI (July 30)
    One Day International

    Toss: Sitepoint.com (Batting first)
Result: Hawkheadquarters.com win by 3 wickets. Hawkheadquarters.com win the series 2-1.
Man of the Match: Glen Nugent
    Venue: WACA, Perth

Sitepoint won the toss and batted first.. and got all out for 78
    Sitepoint.com - 10/78 afrer 18.4 overs

    Top scorer: silentcollision 23* (31)
Best HHQ bowler: Glen Nugent 4/4 (3)

    Despite this, Sitepoint almost won!

    Hawkheadquarters.com - 7/79 after 13 overs

But Hawks Heroes [41* (35)] ensured Sitepoint couldn't take the victory.
Sitepoint's best bowler was fisherboy with 3/14 (2)

So, HHQ won the ODI series 2-1, but Sitepoint put up some good fights. The scorecards can be viewed at http://www.simulationcricket.com/ser...#series_eleven

But there is still one more game to be played, and that's a Test match on August 7.. best of luck everyone!

23? Thats terrible. I blame our team strategy of wearing bikini's.

You'd think that'd be worth some sort of handicap.

Right now I am so thrilled. Failed with the bat but three (3) wickets!

I am really disappointed with the umpiring. Some bad decisions.

Better luck with the test guys.

Can we forget the bikinis and heels and slip into something more comfortable?????

I think I'm with Fisher, as much as the heels and bikinis make me feel pretty I also find them a little bit emasculating. Don't we switch to white now anyway? It's not after labour day, so I don't see a problem.
