    Let's Play Cricket!

Now that the World Cup is over it's time to play simulation cricket.

Sitepoint has been challenged by HawkHeadquarters.com to three One Day matches and one Test match.

If anyone would like to be in the team please let me know along with your batting/bowling preferences. I also need to know if you are defensive, normal or a slogger - as a batter of course!

The first match is on 22nd July.

No cricketing experience is necessary so join in the fun.

I was going to say that, but I thought it would be cooler to be the best fast bowler in the world. Less fleeting.

Can I play too? My batting sucks but I'm good at being hit in all parts of the anatomy and getting large bruises for my troubles while protecting the stumps. (Usually with the groin region)

I am totally expert at bowling "donkey drops" though. People usually laugh so hard at my bowling they can't hit a thing.

    Any room for me?????

I am the sum of Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulka, and Viv Richards rolled into one. However, I bowl like Nasser Hussain after a 7 course Indian meal.

Bring it on, I pity the foo'!

    I'll be number 11 batsman. I'm a right-arm spin bowler.

And I like cheese. Is cheese involved at all? I am woefully undereducated concerning cricket.

@ Hawk: I thought you were the fastest spin bowler in the world? You can be the best fast bowler if you like. We need fast bowlers.

@ fisherboy: Of course you can play. Your bowling technique is just what we need.

@ Nicky: With those credentials I think we have our Number 3.

    @bcr: Number 11 it is.

@jake4974: No cheese involved at all I'm afraid but if you'd like to volunteer to make the tea we could have cheese sandwiches!

Here's the team so far. I'm tentatively putting in the batting order as well although this may change.

    12th Person. jake4974?

As you can see we need a couple of opening bats, a Kevin Peitersen type No 5 and a couple of fast bowlers.

I seriously understand absolutely nothing about cricket. If any understanding of the rules or potential strategies or skills are required (about all I can do really well is swear) I don't think I'd prove an asset. All I know is there is a stick called a wicket (I think) that the bowler throws the ball at and the batter tries to prevent from being struck (I think). That and I find the bats odd to look at and heavy (that I know).
I'm generally a very quick study though.

I understand cricket quite well, but I have absolutely no idea how this works, or what simulation cricket is? I'm failing to see, how being a good bowler in the UK, can possibly play alongside a people in Spain, and New Zealand. *sigh* - the problems with being a newbie.

A New Zealander being good a cricket, that's a good one. Good to have you on the team Hawky.

Hey collision, I'm neither new nor particularly stupid and I fail to see it too. I'm in for the ride though, I think some of these folks know and are unlikely to be simulating us into a simulated dark alley for a simulated robbery or anything.
If this "requires my credit card number" at any point, I reserve the right to jam out.

The 22nd eh? I am actually surprisingly excited. I have no idea how this works, and sometimes I'm a little scatterbrained (may forget) so keep me up to date someone, please?

    Edit:

I just thought of something, NZ is GMT+12, I'm in Calgary - Canada, GMT-7. So that is a difference of 19 hours, HAWK, collision and Fisher will only share the same day with me from midnight to 5am in my time zone. I want to lose my cricket virginity in the light of day (it's a special moment that happens only once)

You put me at No 10! Wow! I've never batted that high in the order before.

    Thanks Mike!
